The Division of Emergency Management is Florida’s disaster response agency. The Division works to ensure that Florida is prepared to respond to emergencies, recover from them, and mitigate against their impacts. As 2012 marked the 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Andrew, and its impacts to our State, all Floridians should take the opportunity to review and update their family disaster plans. It is also important to create and maintain a well-stocked emergency supply kit- including at least enough food, water, and medication for each family member for 3-5 days. For more information, and to use the online tool to create your kit and plan, please visit http://www.FloridaDisaster.org

The Lake Monroe Amateur Radio Society (LMARS)is Seminole County’s and the surrounding area’s oldest organization for amateur radio operators (Hams). Neighborhood HamWatch (NHW) is a national service program originated and sponsored by LMARS for Hams who wish to voluntarily help their neighbors during periods of extended power outages that usually follow severe storm damage by relaying information to and from their neighborhoods and local government emergency managers, and providing amateur radio based email service for neighbors who wish to send short messages to out of state relatives confirming there surviving status. When all else fails, amateur radio works.
We look forward to the opportunity to inform the public about our free and voluntary service programs, encourage folks to become amateur radio operators, and solicit those who are already Hams to participate in our service programs.
