Despite No New Music, One Direction Aims To Rule Summer With Book, 3-D Film & Tour

This summer is proving to be a big one for One Direction. First the boys are headed back to America in June for their Take Me Home Tour, then, in addition to their 3-D film This Is Us, they’ll be releasing a new book.

Titled One Direction: Where We Are: Our Band, Our Story, their book will be released on August 27, just days before their film hits theaters. Yesterday (May 21) the band released the book cover to fans via Twitter and the 1D newsletter.

The only official book from the band, Where We Are: Our Band, Our Story, follows their journey throughout the past year and a half. It includes their “thoughts and feelings, hopes and dreams, highs and lows.”

The film, due out August 30, promises to also give a behind the scenes look of the band, as the video trailers show the band backstage, on tour and during music video and photo shoots as well as showcasing their practical joke side.

Backstreet’s Back: Charli XCX Covers ‘I Want It That Way’

Charli XCX is not embarrassed to admit she’s obsessed with the Backstreet Boys. In fact, she loves them so much she even tackled BSB’s 1999 monster pop hit, “I Want It That Way,” for the first time at a show in Chicago yesterday (May 21).

With help from a keyboard and a drum machine, Charli made the song all her own giving it the same synth-pop feel of her recently released full-length debut, True Romance. She slowed things down and took a darker approach to the love song, making lines like “But we are two worlds apart/Can’t reach to your heart” sound much more desperate and heartbroken than BSB ever did.

But the writer of Icona Pop’s “I Love It,” who described herself to Radio.com as “Wednesday Addams meets Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice meets Baby Spice,” kept things fun. She whispered lines of the chorus, handled the five-part harmony all on her own, and even threw in a little giggle before launching into Nick Carter’s epic solo. She then ended her rendition with a very sincere shout-out, “Big up to the Backstreet Boys.”

Rihanna’s ‘Styled To Rock’ Inches Closer Toward U.S. Premiere

Rihanna is importing her U.K. reality TV show to the U.S., in conjunction with the Style Network. The show’s first cycle aired abroad but for the second season, Rihanna’s American fans can join in on the fashion fun.

Styled To Rock is a Project Runway-esque show produced by Rihanna, where a group of contestants create original looks. The U.K. series featured a chance for the winner to outfit Rihanna in concert, but no clear prize has been attached to the U.S. show yet.

The reality competition also offers its contestant mentors. Pharrell has signed on for the U.S. version, along with Victoria’s Secret model/designer Erin Wasson.

The tornadoes that swept through Oklahoma yesterday, were completely devastating. Yet even in the midst of extreme tragedy and destruction, one true miracle took place.

During an interview with Moore, Oklahoma resident Barbara Garcia, whose home was flattened to rubble, Garcia lamented not so much on the loss of her home, but on the loss of her little dog.

“I never lost consciousness and I hollered for my little dog and he didn’t answer or didn’t come,” Garcia told the interviewer before something truly miraculous happened. Take a look. It’s one of the few truly inspiring stories to come from yesterday’s tragedy.

Kellie Pickler Wins ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Country music is cleaning up this week on reality TV competitions. This past Sunday, Trace Adkins won All-Star Celebrity Apprentice. And last night (May 21), singer Kellie Pickler took top honors on season 16 of Dancing with the Stars.

Pickler shared her win with her professional dance partner Derek Hough. During Tuesday night’s finale, they were competing against Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman and Val Chmerkovskiy.

When season 16 began, Kellie was one of two country artists on the program. Fellow dancer Wynonna Judd, though, was voted off in April.

Other stars competing this season included actor Andy Dick, figure skating champ Dorothy Hamill, football star Jacoby Jones, and Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman.

It’s reported that KStew drove to Taylor’s house yesterday after her ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson left her house with all of his things.

Could Taylor be the new go-to-friend post breakup?

After Selena Gomez broke up with Justin Bieber, she and Taylor were seen hanging out often and Selena even said Taylor helped her cope with the breakup by helping her write songs.

Not that KStew appears to be very musically inclined, she could be the subject of a new song for Taylor.

After all, Taylor did use to date KStew’s Twilight co-star Taylor Lautner.

Maybe now Taylor can write another #1 hit like “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

Maroon 5 Releases Paint-Drenched ‘Love Somebody’ Video

On Tuesday (May 21) night, Maroon 5 released a video for their single “Love Somebody” that uses the inverse of green screen technology. Directed by Rich Lee (Eminem, will.i.am), the video utilizes an effect that causes band member’s body parts to show up as they are covered in a thick, paint-like substance.

Adam Levine manages to make messy sexy and is seen rubbing his hands, full of paint naturally, over the body of a female model.

The song, co-written by Levine, Nathaniel Motte of 3OH!3, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic and producer Noel Zancanella (Demi Lovato, B.o.B.) is the fourth single off the band’s 2012 Overexposed LP.

Memorial Day Pork Black Pepper Chops With Molasses Butter

Serves 4

4 top loin pork chops, 1 1/2-inch thick

1/4 cup butter

1 tablespoon molasses

1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

4 tablespoons coarsely ground black pepper

1. In small bowl blend butter, molasses and lemon juice with fork. Cover and refrigerate.

2. Rub chops on both sides evenly with pepper. Grill chops over a medium-hot fire for 12-16 minutes, turning once, until thermometer reads 145F, followed by a 3-minute rest time.

3. Top each chop with a tablespoon of molasses butter.

8 Things You Should Never Put On Your Resume

If you’re looking for a new job and hope to get a call for an interview, here are 8 things you need to avoid putting on your resume.

Considering a resume is the first thing most employers ever see from an applicant, it’s pretty incredible that so many resumes are such a turnoff to employers. Salary.com has eight tips to help keep your resume out of the trash.

1. Weird hobbies- You might think all your weird hobbies make you more interesting in an interview and maybe they’ll be a conversation starter, but actually they just make you look weird. And weird people don’t get jobs when a normal person is available.

2. Your private business- Your marital status, religious affiliation, sexual orientation and other private matters shouldn’t go on a resume. Employers aren’t allowed to take them into account anyway. And for almost all jobs, they’re irrelevant when it comes to performance.

3. Big vocabulary words- They don’t impress anyone. People who don’t know them will resent you and people who do know them will see right through it. And both groups will think you’re a showoff.

4. Unprofessional-sounding email addresses- If you’re still rocking your HotDaddy12@gmail.com address from junior college, open a new account. It’s free and it takes two minutes. If you don’t take the job seriously, you won’t get it.

5. Sensitive identifying information- Don’t give them your social security number before you get the job. You don’t know where they’re storing that resume or who gets to see it after you hand it over.

6. Attention-getting tactics- Don’t print a resume on colored paper or use weird fonts or decorations. For the most part, hiring managers hate all that stuff, unless your applying for a job with Martha Stewart. It’s all part of taking the job seriously.

7. Wild career objectives- Don’t apply for a job in the mailroom and say you intend to become the CEO. Ambition is great, but delusions will get you passed over.

8. Irrelevant job experience- No one wants to read about your part-time jobs in high school. Stick to the job experience that qualifies you for the job you want. If that makes your resume too short, that probably means you shouldn’t be applying in the first place.

Robin Thicke Talks ‘Unrated’ Video

Robin Thicke is known for his soulful music but this time around it’s his music video that’s making headlines.

The unrated version of “Blurred Lines,” which Thicke premiered April, features several women sans clothing. YouTube quickly banned the naked clip, but not before it racked up more than one million hits.

“We just had a great feeling about the song,” Thicke told Carson Daly. “I made it last summer. I mean, I had it for about eight or nine months and Jimmy Iovine liked it, but nobody was really jumping all around the place for it.”

“And then we shot the video and Jimmy called me seven seconds into the video and he said, ‘This is a smash! This video is amazing!’”
