Hurricane Irma: Schools Closings, Athletic Changes, Travel And More…

In preparation for Hurricane Irma, most area schools and districts have  moved Week 3 football games up one day or have canceled or rescheduled them.

Governor Rick Scott has ordered all public schools in Florida CLOSED today (Friday 09/08) and Monday (09/11).

UCF’s home game versus Memphis has BEEN CANCELLED!!  Rollins College has canceled classes on Friday through the weekend and asked students who can leave campus to do so!

Florida State Seminole’s Football has been cancelled.

Public school districts in Orange, Seminole, and Volusia counties have shifted all Friday athletic events to Thursday, as did a number of private schools throughout the area.

The Orlando Sentinel says No. 5 Wekiva and No. 9 Winter Park at Showalter Field will now be played with one less day of preparation on Thursday and No. 1 Apopka plays on the road Thursday at Lakeland. Games in Osceola County moving to Thursday include Gateway at St. Cloud and Poinciana at Liberty. Osceola County has announced school closings Friday September 8th and Monday September 11th.

Brevard County has announced schools are closed until further notice.

UCF has cancelled classes through Monday evening.

Rollins College canceled classes Friday, Saturday and Sunday. More days could canceled depending on the path of Irma, so students and faculty should check the Rollins website for further details.

Bethune Cookman College ordered a mandatory evacuation of the campus yesterday at 5 PM. They said all residence halls will close today, 9/6 at 6PM and the dining hall closes at 7 PM. All classes have been canceled as of yesterday until further notice.

Florida Southern has told students to leave campus by Thursday at 5 p.m. and Southeastern has cancelled class on Friday and Monday.

According to News 6, the Disney Fantasy Cruise on Saturday has been canceled, as well as Disney Dream on Friday and Monday, as well as Carnival Liberty’s Thursday cruise.
