By Adam Alexander
Why did Disney originally pass on “The Little Mermaid”? What is the most common college sports team nickname? What did Maine make it illegal to add to clam chowder back in 1939? All that and more with Adam’s Fun Facts:

1. “Despacito” is the first song that’s primarily in a foreign language to hit number one since the “Macarena” in 1996.  The last one before that was “La Bamba” in 1987 and before that, “Rock Me Amadeus” in 1986. (Wikipedia)

2. Disney originally passed on “The Little Mermaid” because they thought its plot conflicted too much with another movie they were planning, the sequel to “Splash” called “Splash Too”. Obviously they changed their mind. (CinemaBlend)

3. There are 76 colleges whose sports team nickname is the Eagles. Tigers is the second-most common with 46 schools and Bulldogs is third with 40. (Wikipedia)

4. Iceland has an official list of legal baby names: 1,853 female names and 1,712 male names!  You need government permission to give a kid a name that’s not on the list. The point of the list is to “preserve the Icelandic language.” (The Week)

5. Maine made it illegal to put tomatoes in clam chowder in 1939. (Movoto)
