“Look What You Made Me Do:” Taylor Swift Smashes Records

By CJ

Taylor Swift is back…and in true Taylor fashion, she’s smashing records left and right with her new single, “Look What You Made Me Do.”

Fans were expecting a traditional Taylor pop song when the single was released last week but as opposed to her follow-up to 1989 being a carbon copy, Taylor decided to throw an unconventional sound to her fans.

The song polarized social media with half saying they loved it while the other half said it was not good. (Half of those who said it wasn’t good are now on board since the video’s official release Sunday night at the MTV VMAs.)

Since “LWYMMD’s” release, Taylor has broken a Spotify record, a YouTube record, and radio airplay is through the roof. Sale estimates for the single are in the half a million downloads realm.

Is Taylor well on her way to debuting at #1? Very possible.

Her 24 hour Spotify record is 8 million streams, the lyric video racked up 19 million views in 24 hours, breaking The Chainsmokers’ record of 9 million for “Something Just Like This,” their joint effort with Coldplay.

Last Friday, “LWYMMD” had 2,000 spins on radio across the country which clearly sat at #1 for the day.

The official music video has already reached 21 million views in less than 24 hours since its release a mere 14 hours ago. The record for a music video is Adele’s “Hello” which had 27.7 million views in 24 hours.

Taylor is well on her way to breaking that record and possible, even the all time YouTube record of 38.9 million views for “YouTube Rewind: The Ultimate 2016 Challenge.”

All of this combined could lead Taylor to a debut at #1 for the lead single off her new album Reputation which is set for a November 10th release.
