Local Artist Charlie Schaeffer Plans Artistic Tribute To Pulse Victims

Charlie Schaeffer put his artistic abilities to good use following the attack at Pulse Nightclub one year ago.

He is a self-taught artist who grew up with an affinity for the creative arts such as painting and music, and has taught himself to play instruments such as clarinet, piano, and guitar.

Growing up in Tallahassee and relocating to Orlando roughly 8 years ago, Charlie has grown to love the city beautiful.

After the horrific shootings at Pulse, Charlie took to his canvases and started painting. This is where he came up with the sayings, “One City, One Family, One Love, One Heart, One Pulse.”

The photo began being shared by friends and family, and then by total strangers…which became a theme after Pulse. Strangers coming together for one another, comforting people in any way possible, which is exactly why Charlie continued to paint.

However it wasn’t just painting that Charlie did following Pulse. He began to create more than just a series of photos.

If you visited the memorial that was set up at the Dr Phillips Center, Charlie placed a series of ribbons that created a larger ribbon. Eventually, people began to place their own tributes to the 49 victims around this ribbon as a symbol of hope and love and unity.

Days and months passed and the community began to heal and Charlie began to plan something bigger than a series of paintings and a ribbon. He along with other local artists began creating an art exhibit that would highlight the many different artists we have locally and allow them to pay their respects to the victims and survivors the best way they know how, through art.

“One City, One Pulse – An Artistic Tribute” was born and with over 100 pieces from different artists, the tribute promises to be nothing short of amazing. All proceeds will benefit OnePulse Foundation and QLatinX charities.
