The theme parks in Orlando rarely close, but due to the severity of Hurricane Matthew, SeaWorld is taking no chances.
The theme park announced they will close early on Thursday and will be closed all day Friday.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, SeaWorld said Wednesday in an email it made the decision “to ensure the safety of our guests, ambassadors [employees] and animals during the impact from Hurricane Matthew…. We have comprehensive weather preparedness plans, and will continue to closely monitor the progress and track of the storm.”
SeaWorld will close at 2pm on Thursday and will not open on Friday. Discovery Cove is also closing early on Thursday but an exact time was not given and the park will be closed Friday as well.
Disney and Universal have not made any announcements on closings yet.
Theme parks closing is a rarity and that last time a theme park in Orlando closed due to weather was in 2004 due to Hurricane Charley.
