Adam’s Fun Facts: Easter Island, Rhode Island, “Star-Spangled Banner” & More

How did Easter Island get it’s name?  What is the only country that has a flag that isn’t a rectangle?  How many verses are in the “Star-Spangled Banner”? All that and more with Adam’s Fun Facts!

1. “Dick” only became short for Richard because nicknames that rhymed were popular in the 1200s. So people known as Rick were also called Dick. (Today I Found Out)

2. Nepal is the only country with a flag that’s not a rectangle!  It’s two overlapping triangles. (Wikipedia)

3. There are actually four verses to the “Star-Spangled Banner”, and the third mentions killing the slaves who fought for the British against the United States in the War of 1812, in exchange for their freedom. (CNN)

4. Easter Island got its name because a Dutch explorer landed there on Easter Sunday in 1722. (Wikipedia)

5. There are seven countries in Europe that are smaller than Rhode Island: Vatican City, Monaco, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Malta, Andorra, and Luxembourg. (Skyscanner)
