Adam’s Fun Facts: Long Johns, Stanley Kubrick, Guinness Brewery Founder & More!

Where did we get the named Long John’s from?  How many kids did Arthur Guinness have?  What is the only city that will have hosted both the Summer and the Winter Olympics?  It’s Adam’s Fun Facts:

1. Long johns are named after a boxer in Boston in the 1870s named Big John Sullivan.  He would wear them in the ring. (Blair)

2. The nine biggest states have more people than the other 41 states combined: California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, and North Carolina. (Wikipedia)

3. The guy who founded the Guinness brewery was Arthur Guinness and he had 21 kids with his wife Olivia.  That’s not quite enough to be a Guinness world record, but it’s still incredible, mostly on her part. (Wikipedia)

4. In six years, Beijing will become the first city that’s hosted both the Summer Olympics AND the Winter Olympics.  They had the Summer Olympics in 2008, and they will host the Winter Olympics in 2022. (Wikipedia)

5. Stanley Kubrick had his secretary type “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” over and over on 500 pieces of paper for “The Shining”, even though only a few of them were ever shown on camera. (Cabinet Magazine)
