As Paramore continue to stir excitement with their triumphant return, the trio has released a video to accompany, “Now,” the first single from their upcoming self-titled album.
“I think ‘Now’ is a really good starting point for where we’re going as a band,” says frontwoman Hayley Williams of the album’s first single in an interview with Radio.com. “If feels like there’s something really empowering about it and the message behind it. I felt that when we wrote it.” Williams added that it was friends and family that convinced them to release the track first.
Lying in the middle of a war-torn battlefield, a creepy-looking Williams watches as soldiers attempt to end her life with an assortment of weaponry. Williams’ bright orange locks make her easy to spot within the smokey monochromatic video landscape. After picking her self up, she walks toward the leader of the enemy troop. Finally captured, she’s brought to the foot of the menacing leader. As he cocks back his baton preparing to end her life, she breaks free from the soldiers’ grip and flips the script. In a cloud of colored dust, the singer brings an unexpected end to the madness.
Directed by Daniel “Cloud” Campos and shot in Los Angeles, Williams said of the video, “It was really cool, just very different for us and active.” Speaking to KROQ’s Kevin & Bean, Williams said that the video made her feel like “Leelo,” actress Milla Jovovich’s notorious character from the 1997 science-fiction movie The Fifth Element, or someone from Jovovich’s popular Resident Evil film franchise.
Paramore is scheduled to hit stores April 9 and will support the album with a spring tour.
