The battle between China and the U.S. for the most medals at the 2012 Olympics in London was a close race. Please note the keyword…WAS! The U.S. has taken a commanding lead in the medal count going into the final weekend of the summer games.
Here’s the current medal count for the top 5 countries:
#1.) The United States with 90 medals – 39 Gold, 25 Silver, and 26 Bronze
#2.) China with 80 medals – 37 Gold, 24 Silver, and 19 Bronze
#3.) Russia with 56 medals – 12 Gold, 21 Silver, and 23 Bronze
#4.) Great Britain with 52 medals – 25 Gold, 13 Silver, and 14 Bronze
#5.) Germany with 37 medals – 10 Gold, 16 Silver, and 11 Bronze

#2.) The Women’s Water Polo team beat Spain 8-5 to win gold.

#5.) Clarissa Shields won gold in Women’s Boxing.
