Chances are you’ve been on at least one really bad first date. But don’t worry, thanks to Essence, we’ve got a list to help you avoid future bad dates.  Here are five places you shouldn’t go on a first date.

#1.) A Club

You can’t talk because it’s too loud because of the thumpin’ bass.  So, the only thing you can do is dance, which is a little too physical for a first date.

#2.) The Bar Where All Your Friends Are Meeting Up

It’s cool to wrap up the date there by introducing them to your friends, just don’t include your friends in the whole date, because you won’t have any one-on-one time.  Not to mention meeting someone’s friends on a first date can be intimidating.

#3.) A Movie

You won’t be able to talk or get to know each other at all. You’ll just sit there for two hours in the dark, so it’s better to save a movie for a 2nd or 3rd date.

#4.) Dinner

It’s definitely not the worst first date idea, but sitting across from each other asking questions for an hour can feel like an interrogation.  You have to eat, so why not a place like Kobe where you sit next to each other and it’s a “dinner show” or maybe a picnic where you can talk more easily and in a relaxed environment?

#5.) Anywhere with Your Kids

You don’t  have to tell the other person about your kids on a first date. Get to know each other first, then bring it up on the second date.  But definitely don’t have them meet your kids on a first date, it’s too much pressure, not to mention it’s not fair to your children.
