Some nights, when you’re young, you just feel like having fun but popular Brooklyn-based group fun. are not having much of that in the teaser for their new video “Some Nights.”
In the clip, the trio are trapped in the middle of what looks like a Civil War re-enactment battle.
“This is it, boys, this is war, what are we waiting for?/Why don’t we break the rules already?/I was never one to believe the hype/save that for the black and white/I try twice as hard and I’m half as liked/but here they come again to jack my style,” sings frontman Nate Ruess passionately while banging a clenched fist on his military-style coat.
“I idolised bands like Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins, who wanted to reach as many people as they could,” Ruess explained in an interview with NME. “That’s what we want from this band.”
“We were the first rock band since Coldplay to get a Number One in the US and that tells you everything you need to know about the state of rock music in the charts.”
It’s true; Fun’s hit song “We Are Young” hit number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts, the first alternative song at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 since Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” in 2008.
