[photogallerylink id=91247 align=left]Over the weekend many movie goers flocked to movie theaters worldwide to see the new animated film, Dr Seuss ‘The Lorax.’ Did the A-list cast including Taylor Swift, pay off?
‘The Lorax’ brought in over $70 million over the weekend, making it the top grossing movie in one weekend thus far in 2012. With an all-star cast including Swift, Zac Efron, Ed Helms, Betty White, and Danny DeVito, it’s no wonder the film did so well.
The senior box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations, Jeff Bock, told MTV news that March has been a month for animated movies to do particularly well, so the success for ‘The Lorax’ wasn’t shocking.
Bock said “Over the last decade or so, March has been a veritable hotbed for animated releases. In fact, six of the top 10 March debuts have been toons. Universal certainly had already been witness to the success of ‘Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!’ which went on to gross over $150-plus million after a March 2008 rollout. So is this a surprise? Not really.”
Dr. Seuss ‘The Lorax’ is in theaters now.
