First Zac Efron was in and then out. Then it was Chace Crawford. But today, Paramount announced that the lead role of Ren McCormick in the remake of Footloose will go to relatively unknown dancer Kenny Wormald.
The 25-year-old Boston native has primarily been seen in videos, working as a video dancer for [lastfm]Mariah Carey[/lastfm], [lastfm]Madonna[/lastfm], [lastfm]Christina Aguilera[/lastfm], [lastfm]Chris Brown[/lastfm], and others. He was also in the film Center Stage 2: Turn It Up.
The production has also already lost two directors (High School Musical‘s Kenny Ortega and Hairspray‘s Adam Shankman), but Hustle and Flow director Craig Brewer is now set to helm the project with Dancing With The Stars‘ Julianne Hough cast as Ariel. Dennis Quaid will play the preacher role (John Lithgow in the original) and the part of Ren’s friend Willard has gone to Miles Teller.
